PM leaves for Vietnam Wed despite illness

Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra on Wednesday afternoon leave for Vietnam as scheduled even though she has not yet fully covering from food poisoning, Foreign Minister Surapong Tohvichakchaikul said on Wednesday.
A medical team will accompany her to Vietnam and she will skip the dinner reception hosted by Vietnam.
Yingluck was admitted to Praram 9 Hospital early Tuesday after suffering from food poisoning believed to have been caused by seafood she had at a restaurant.
Surapong said the premier and her delegation will leave Bangkok for Hanoi at 1pm and will return to Bangkok at 8pm.
He quoted Yingluck as telling him on Tuesday that she did not want to cancel the Vietnam visit because Vietnam has made the preparations to receive her. If her condition was not better after the visit, she would return to the hospital.
Topics of discussion between Yingluck and Vietnam leaders will involve the purchase of natural gas, mutual investments as well as bilateral cooperation including natural disaster management, Mekong Basin and food security.
สวัสดีท่านผู้อ่านทุกท่านครับ ข่าวที่เลือกมาในวันนี้เป็นข่าวเกี่ยวกับการไปเยือนประเทศเวียดนามอย่างเป็นทางการของนายกรัฐมนตรีของไทยครับ
ถ้าไปเยือนเฉยๆก็คงจะไม่น่าสนใจ เพราะการไปเยือนเวียดนามในครั้งนี้ น.ส.ยิ่งลักษณ์พึ่งออกจากโรงพยาบาลเนื่องจากอาหารเป็นพิษ (food poisoning) ครับ
คำว่า despite (ดิสฺ′ ไปทฺ) ในพาดหัวข่าว เป็นคำบุพบทหมายถึง “ทั้งๆที่” ใช้ร่วมกับคำนาม โดยบุพบทอีกคำที่มีความหมายและการใช้เหมือนกันคือคำว่า in spite of (อินฺ′สไปท์ อฟฺ) เช่น “Despite/In spite of difficulty, I have managed to pass calculus.” “ทั้งๆที่ข้อสอบยากมาก ฉันก็ผ่านสอบวิชาแคลคูลัสจนได้”
ทั้งนี้ ถ้าผู้อ่านต้องการจะใช้บุพบทสองตัวนี้กับประโยค จะต้องเติมคำว่า the fact that เข้าไปด้านหลังครับ เช่น “Despite the fact that/In spite of the fact that the exam was too difficult, I have managed to pass calculus.”
เพราะฉะนั้น จากพาดหัวข่าว “PM leaves for Vietnam despite illness” “นายกรัฐมนตรีเดินทางไปยังประเทศเวียดนามทั้งๆที่ป่วยอยู่” จึงสามารถเปลี่ยนให้เป็นประโยคอีกรูปแบบหนึ่งได้ว่า “PM leaves for Vietnam despite the fact that/in spite of the fact that she is ill/sick.”
จากเนื้อข่าวยังมีอีกคำที่มีความหมายเหมือนกับบุพบททั้งสองด้านบน คือ even though (′อี๊เวนฺ โธ) ซึ่งทำหน้าที่เป็นคำสันธานใช้เชื่อมประโยค มีความหมายว่า “ถึงแม้ว่า” โดยคำสันธานที่มีความหมายเหมือนกัน คือ although (อลฺ′โธ) และ though (โธ) ตัวอย่างเช่น “I try to eat vegetables as much as I can even though/although/though I don’t like them.” “ผมพยายามทานผักให้มากที่สุดเท่าที่ทำได้ ถึงแม้ว่าผมจะไม่ค่อยชอบทานก็ตาม”
คำกริยาที่น่าสนใจจากข่าวนี้มีหลายคำทีเดียวครับ คำแรกที่จะสอนวิธีใช้คือ to accompany (เออะ′ค้ามพ่ะหนิ) ซึ่งแปลว่า “ไปเป็นเพื่อน/ไปด้วย” โครงสร้างของคำกริยาตัวนี้ คือ to accompany someone to somewhere ไปเป็นเพื่อนใครที่ไหน เช่น “Can you accompany me to the toilet? I’m afraid of darkness.” “คุณแม่ไปห้องน้ำเป็นเพื่อนหนูหน่อยได้ไหมคะ หนูกลัวความมืด” จากข่าวนี้ คณะแพทย์จะติดตามนายกรัฐมนตรีไปยังประเทศเวียดนามด้้วย
คำกริยา to suffer (′ซั้ฟเฟ่อรฺ) ซึ่งมีความหมายว่า “ทนทุกข์” โดยโครงสร้างของคำกริยานี้คือ suffer from something ทนทุกข์จากเรื่องอะไร เช่น “Mark passed away after he had suffered from cancer for 2 years.” “มาร์คเสียชีวิตลงหลังจากทนทุกข์กับโรคมะเร็งมากว่า 2 ปี”
